If I had a dollar for every woman who told me she was nervous about a boudoir session, I could probably retire early.
The most common concern I hear?“I don’t know what to do.”Closely followed by, “I don’t know how to pose.”
Here’s the truth: you are not supposed to know what to do. That’s literally my job.
As a Kansas City boudoir photographer, I direct everything — from where to put your hands and feet to how to move your mouth and shift your weight. You’re never expected to walk in knowing how to pose or how to look. You just show up. I handle the rest.
Before we ever start shooting, we ease in. During hair and makeup, we talk. We go over what you’re excited about, what you’re nervous about, and what feels outside your comfort zone. I always remind women that they can arrive with freshly blow-dried hair and moisturized skin — everything else is covered.
And something interesting happens once we start.
At first, women move cautiously. Then the music kicks in. Shoulders relax. They start flowing into poses naturally because they’ve learned the rhythm of my direction. Sometimes they’re dancing without even realizing it.
That’s when I know the nerves are gone.
You don’t need a certain body. You don’t need confidence ahead of time. You don’t need to “wait” until anything changes.

Anyone can do a boudoir session — and that includes you.
I also make sure to answer the questions most women are afraid to ask. Your comfort level always sets the tone. You can be as modest or as spicy as you’d like, and we never cross a line you’re not comfortable with.
If you’re nervous, you’re not behind. You’re right on track!
